A long, long time ago (relatively speaking), when I was taking my first newbie steps onto the internet, and my eyes were wide and innocent to the ways of fandom, I stumbled across Gundam Wing.
It was, in a lot of ways, a learning experience.
It also kicked off a writing spree that boggles my mind when I look back at it.
My love affair with GW spanned about four years, and even though I am no longer active in the fandom, and my GW muses eventually met with an unfortunate accident involving a demonic cherry tree, I still have a soft spot for GW.
Below are some of the fics that remain personal favorites of mine, even to this day. They're flawed, in places, and a lot of things I would do differently now, but you never really forget your first love.
If you would like to see the rest of the output of that era, please visit Gundam Wing Addiction (link opens in new window), where the entirety of my GW output still resides, thanks to the generosity of Tyr.
It didn't take me long to settle on Heero and Duo as my favorite GW pairing... thousands of screaming fangirls can't be wrong, right?
'Course, my Heero and Duo muses always did have a certain conflicted attitude towards themselves, each other, and that whole love thing.
after the snow, rain: Sometimes known as The Coffee Cup fic, or the Adverbs Are Evil! fic. Heero, Duo, and a mountain.
Pursuance: Heero. Duo. Skittishness and persistence. Please ignore the fangirl Japanese. I didn't know any better at the time, I swear. Written 07/00, revised 09/00.
Steady: Pursuance Redux. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Written 03/04.
Lost and Found: The last GW fic I ever wrote (12/04). Heero, Duo, and taking certain tropes about giving one's heart too literally.
Who Wants to Live Forever?: One of many songfics, this one written for Spade. I am a sap. Now with 100% less fangirl Japanese!
The women of GW kick ass. I was always sorry that they didn't get more appreciation from the fandom.
It: Relena. Stress. Release.
Precious Things: My take on the Bluebeard story.
Wind Over Water: Sally. Noin. Zechs. Ouch.
Untitled: Sally welcomes Noin back from a mission.
Odds, ends, and the occasional gen.
Vector: Why Duo might have survived on L2, when his gang didn't.
Orobouros: Treize, quite probably drunk, and melancholy.
